CELEBRATION 6.17.18 | create

Every so often, my husband and I rearrange furniture. There is something refreshing about moving some pieces around. Inevitably the house feels cozier or crisper as a result of our redesign.

This winter, we decided to repaint our bedroom before rearranging furniture. Since then, the walls have been bare. Prior to painting, we had the same photographs from a trip we took to Maine decorating the room for the past nine years. Although that trip still means a lot to me and impacted the person I am, I was ready for something new.

When I took an online mixed media painting course with Kellie Rae Roberts, she told us to paint the mantra our heart needed to hear.

That is what I wanted on our walls--the mantras our hearts needed to hear.

So, I found a company that would allow me to custom design wall art. I created these pieces with lyrics from our wedding song to hang above our nightstands.

We still had a blank space at the top of the stairs. I decided to use my Ali Edwards alphabet stamps and create a piece for my husband. His eclectic spiritual beliefs are something that drew me to him many years ago. He was raised by a Catholic mother and a Jewish father. He regularly traveled to the Northwoods of Wisconsin and gained a deep appreciation for nature and Native American culture. He meditates and finds a great deal of wisdom and peace in Buddhist teachings. So, when I found a Lakota prayer, I knew it captured the way he walks through life. It is just what our hearts need to hear.

This week, in the moments between, I stopped to spend time creating reminders for the busy times. Because it always does a soul good to listen to what the heart needs to hear.

  1. Love the mantras above your nightstand! And this sentence from your post: "Because it always does a soul good to listen to what the heart needs to hear."
